You Are What You Eat

By , 21 January, 2011 07:00

We are what we eat. A more specific way to translate that claim is to say that what we eat, to a great extent, determines our health. More complex is the idea that how we eat affects our health. When we appreciate and are conscious of our food, we derive incredible benefits from eating, in part because such awareness makes it difficult for us to eat food that is bad for us. Discover food every time you eat. What you will find is that every apple, slice of toast, or meal in your favorite restaurant has its own unique, subtle qualities that often slip by, unnoticed, when you eat habitually or in a distracted state of mind. If you can bring yourself back to the present moment for just an instant and pause to see how your food aligns with you deep in your core, you’ll find you have an unfailing tool for knowing what is truly healthy and satisfying for you.

Honey / Honung

By , 16 November, 2010 08:12

Honey is a treat, and the oldest using sweetener. It is an excellent substitute for sugar in our drinks and food. It is also good for many other things and treating many other conditions. Honey is composed of sugars like glucose and fructose and minerals like magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium chlorine, sulphur, iron and phosphate. It contains vitamins B1, B2, C, B6, B5 and B3 all of which change according to the qualities of the nectar and pollen. Several kinds of hormones are also present in it. Approximately one half of the human diet is derived directly or indirectly from crops pollinated by bees. Today honeybees are an essential part of a healthy agriculture economy.
If you have allergies, honey can be beneficial. If you eat honey that is local to your area, it may prevent your seasonal allergies. Bees use the pollen from local plants and eventually it ends up in your honey.
Honey may also be good for your skin. It has the ability to attract water. It is also safe for sensitive skin. You can also use it as a moisturizing mask for your skin as well as your hair. To use it as a conditioner, mix the honey with olive oil.
If you have a sore throat, take some honey. Honey has powerful antimicrobial properties, which can soothe your raw tissues. Pour a teaspoon of honey into a large serving spoon and then top off the spoon with lemon juice. Swallow the concoction (without water) every few hours until symptoms clear up. Some people add a pinch of black or red pepper to increase blood circulation to the throat. Due to its natural anti-inflammatory effect, it will help to heal the wounds more quickly.
Do you have a cut? Honey is a natural antiseptic. Medical journals cite more than 600 cases in which honey was employed to treat wounds. By applying honey to your wounds, you prevent infections. Honey contains antimicrobial agents, which prevents infections by killing the bacteria in and around your wounds.
Honey may also be effective in the treatment of your ulcers. In Europe, honey has been used internally to help cure ulcers, particularly stomach ulcers. Burns, too, heal better with honey, studies show.
In treating diarrhea, honey promotes the rehydration of the body and more quickly clears up the diarrhea and any vomiting and stomach upsets. The anti-bacterial properties of honey, both the peroxide and non-peroxide, are effective in the laboratory against MRSA strains of bacteria which are notoriously resistant to antibiotics and are sometimes responsible for the closing of hospital wards.
Honey -Easily digested: Because sugar molecules in honey can convert into other sugars (e.g. fructose to glucose), honey is easily digested by the most sensitive stomachs, despite its high acid content. It helps kidneys and intestines to function better.
Good source of antioxidants, Has a low calorie level, when it is compared with the same amount of sugar, it gives 40% less calories to the body. Although it gives great energy to the body, it does not add weight. Rapidly diffuses through the blood: When accompanied by mild water, honey diffuses into the bloodstream in 7 minutes.
Grandmother’s remedies may have been the best, and this encyclopedia identifies which old fashioned cures have been proven effective by modern medical research, and which ones may be bogus, but if you believe it will get result…

Feet needs care

By , 5 November, 2010 08:42

Feet gives support and balance and work as a damper to your whole body. It´s our feet that carry us through life. Feet is your rootedness, your feet needs your love, lots of care. Sometimes your feet are tired, dry and need some extra care. In evenings I use to give my feet massage with some lotion, my favorite is ecologic Ringblomssalva. To massage your feet you also get your blood flowing and the nerves passing under your feet becomes happy. Necessarily to get this nerve signals to pass through the feet all the way to the brain is to have good use in all the joints, muscles and bones of the feet. Yoga is your first meeting with your feet. Yoga gives your feet muscles but also awareness. Through your feet you will rise and grow. Through your feet you will find freedom. If your feet are happy You will become even happier.

Concentrate within

By , 3 November, 2010 10:30

We have turned the clocks back an hour, officially ushering in winter. The shorter daylight hours and the blanket of cold can feel like bitter pills. But they also offer needed opportunities to follow nature’s lead to slow down and tend to things closer to home. In the spring and summer months, the focus is on building energy and putting it out into the world. In the fall and winter, the opposite happens. Instead of moving out, our energy concentrates within. It’s time to rest, reflect, and allow our minds and bodies to recharge. In the coming weeks, try resetting your internal clock to align yourself with the season. Help your body adjust to the seasonal change, a nice warm cup of tee, warm food, and a nice book to relax completely.

Save some Light / Spara ljuset

By , 10 October, 2010 01:19

Take time to enjoy the sun, feel the shining go into your heart. The winter is long here in the west and we need to save in some light, some warmth, to fill in when you need it. To fill in when it´s dark and cold. The sun also gives you vitamine D to help release calcium from your skeleton. Store the sun inside your self and you can relax, enjoy and be healthy all winter.

Stress Less, Weigh Less

By , 28 September, 2010 06:52

Yoga helps reduce stress, which may aid weight loss, too. In response to stress, levels of the hormone cortisol rise; for people who continue to worry, those levels can stay high. Elevated cortisol levels not only stimulate eating, they ensure that any additional calories are efficiently converted to fat. By combating stress, yoga helps normalize cortisol levels. The regular practice of yoga also boosts your ability to feel what’s going on inside your body. Besides having greater bodily awareness, people who practice yoga learn to examine their emotions. Yoga teaches that you are not your emotions and that you don’t always need to act on them.

Focus on the Exhale / Fokus på Utandning

By , 23 September, 2010 02:45

In the yogic practice of breath control (or pranayama), the exhale has a special function. While the inhale is stimulating, the exhale is relaxing. While the inhale is about bringing energy into the body, the exhale is about releasing stress, toxins, and pain. Because of this, you can use conscious breathing as a break in your day. By focusing on your exhale, you can let go of the past and come into the present with a renewed commitment.
